Les élèves de Terminale L ont assisté à la représentation théâtrale The 39 steps interprétée par la compagnie Dreampark Theatre à la Brest Business School le jeudi 10 décembre 2015. Un travail préparatoire sur l'intrigue, le jeu des acteurs et la mise en scène avait été réalisé en classe. Suite à la représentation, les élèves ont rédigé les articles suivants.

A reinvented Hitchcock

The 39 steps was played by the Dreampark Theatre Company on December 10^th in London.

“A story of love, murder, and investigation played in a funny way” would not be a fair description of the play. I absolutely have to talk about the three young actors who managed to play about twenty different characters, who each has their own personality. The difference between the number of actors and the number of characters adds a little something to the play; an original, funny and impressive thing. As they swap to different characters the actors also have to change their outfits between the scenes which are cut by extracts from Hitchcock's version of The 39 steps. Not only the actors' performance is outstanding but their organisation and coordination are extraordinary. This play is very pleasant to watch, it is a great moment for everyone.

The story of a man who is bored with life

On December 10^th, I saw a play performed by the Dreampark Theatre Company.

It relates the crazy story of a British man named Richard who decides to go to Mr. Memory's show (a man with an extraordinary memory) because he is bored in his London flat. Then, he is involved in a strange secret affair. Indeed, when a fights breaks out, a mysterious woman asks him to bring her to his home. During the night, she is killed in Richard's flat but before dying she asked him to do something for her.

First and foremost, this play is really funny thanks to the talented actors. They are able to perform many different roles almost at the same time which puts the stress on their being amazing actors. Then giving the illusion of being in many different places (on a train, at the police station, in a flat ….) just with their bodies and moves and simple props is very interesting.

But, there is too much suspense and it takes to much time to understand the plot. Indeed, we do not know what the 39 steps are before the very end.

But, I recommend this play because although I did not like the plot, it is really hilarious and surprising.

A drop of Britain in the Big Apple

Yesterday, I saw a British play entitled The 39 steps in a famous theater on Broadway.

It is the story of a man named Richard who is bored with his life in his London flat and decides to go to the theater and then a series of events will make him become a runaway who will try to pursue the mission of the mysterious spy Annabella.

The three actors played their roles perfectly mixing the different characters after changing their voices and their clothes. They know how to keep us interested with humor introduced in dramatic scenes and a good plot. Moreover, each character has their own originality and the setting is managed in a subtle way: while changing clothes, some movie scenes were broadcast on a screen.

At the end, the actors took some time to answer some questions, a nice and welcoming company was standing next to me. So, believe me. It is THE play to see !

When Britain comes in the United States

A week ago, for my dear readers, I went to a theater on Broadway to see a British play entitled The 39 steps.

At the beginning, I was a little bit bored because I had some problems to understand the plot but the actors were so motivated and thrilled on stage that I managed to follow the plot.

Furthermore, the story was interesting with a good plot although it was not attractive enough to me. But, mixing the show and movie scenes was a good idea.

The runaway

On Thursday, I saw the play entitled The 39 steps adapted from a book written by J. Buchan. It was then made famous by the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. Today, it is the Dreampark Theatre Company who has decided to take up the challenge. The three actors wonderfully managed to play all the characters and to spice up the plot, they even added a note of humour! Both funny and elegant, the Dreampark Theatre's version of The 39 steps dives us back to the 1950's and makes us feel as if we were running away with Richard Hannay!

Today, for you dear readers, I have decided to tell you more about the new adaptation of The 39 steps and perhaps make you want to see it.

It is the story of Richard, an unlucky man …. I am kidding, if you want a summary you have made a mistake about this magazine. I am a critic.

Anyway. This play, adapted from the book by John Buchan and by Hitchcock's film is soooooo British. Good point if you love humour, if you love British humour.

Actually, the talent of the actors is so amazing!!!! They use exaggerated movements and turn a sad scene into a funny scene! A new aspect of The 39 steps which is not unpleasant. A spicy challenge for the actors!

Finally, you do not have to be an intellectual to understand the plot.

In short, go, buy a ticket and have a good time!

The 39 steps has been adapted into a play. The film by Hitchcock is a more serious version than the play I have seen.

Three very good actors play a lot of characters. They are very funny and they have achieved to make the scenes which seem to be tragic very funny. To give you an example, we can't stop laughing when a character is about to die. But, I do not want to tell you more about it because you must see it and discover this surprising performance.

A play to see …… or not to see …..

Do you know the film The 39 steps by Alfred Hitchcock? Forget about it! It is now a play performed by British actors. In the same play, you can find what you prefer: a detective story, a love story, humour … The actors are also very good. They play different characters and it seems that they can change very easily! Their faces show their feelings well. But, some aspects of the performance may not be pleasant for everybody: The actors exaggerate which can appear ridiculous or useless. It is supposed to be funny but it is not really so.

Do you want to know if you agree with me? Go and see the play and make your choice!
